Rave Magazine describe Kunst as "reminiscent of Powderfinger"…
Full transcipt from the review in Rave Magazine on 15 April 2009 below:
The Tivoli - Sun Apr 12
Emo is dead. The genre was once edgy and counter-cultural, now it’s passé and mainstream. Even with the buzz stripped from the genre, Mindless Self Indulgence do a good job of packing out The Tivoli on a Sunday. Newly formed rock outfit Kunst kick off the show tonight. With strong vocal melodies accompanied by memorable guitar riffs, the five-piece are reminiscent of Powderfinger when they still had alt-rock credibility. Art rock with an equal focus on guitar chords and stage props, next The Red Paintings win over all the funny-haired little’uns in The Tivoli tonight with tracks like Mad World. When vocalist Jimmy Urine introduces his band by saying, “you have all caught a sexually transmitted disease called Mindless Self Indulgence”, the cheers are uproarious. To clarify kids, VD’s not cool. It’s almost laughable to see MSI, a band of fully-grown adults, act like a bunch of horny 14 year-olds. Trouncing about the stage like kids throwing a hissy fit over an allowance dispute, the band’s music is as mature as their stage presence. Shamelessly genre-mashing, the band only succeed in producing an atonal bleating. It’s rap without lyricism, rock without any discernable guitar riffs and dance music for people who aren’t old enough to go to clubs where dance music is played. Tonight’s crowd loves Mindless Self Indulgence, but in no way does that validate the band’s totally irrelevant existence. Teeming with a pubescent sexual energy, MSI are as cringe-worthy as your high school romantic pursuits. This is a shallow and insipid performance from a horrendously sub-par band. In a few years, most of tonight’s audience who loved the show will shake their heads at the memory of their attendance. MSI are simply the Bloodhound Gang minus intelligent innuendo, irony and charm. Emo is dead, tonight MSI demonstrate why.
